General Discussion
We have been getting a lot of customers looking at our airbag proxies specifically in order to solve airbag light/function issues when changing out their stock seat to almost any other seat.
On Toyotas these are the two MOST common. Yes there are others but most will be either the type 1 or type 2 versions. When ordering please make sure you confirm which one you will need. They all do the same thing but its just the business end of the connector that matters on your vehicle.
Airbag proxy differences for most Toyota SRS equipped vehicles
For those unaware, when you remove an OEM seat that contains an airbag, that yellow connector informs the SRS computer that the airbag is active. In Toyota vehicles there is a secondary component of measuring the weight of the occupant. When you remove the airbag equipped OEM seat you are giving the SRS computer an error code. This would have very negative consequences for how the SRS system handles this error.
By plugging on a correct ohm rated resister you are telling the SRS system to function as normal. Dash warning light turns off. Now the SRS system functions normally in an accident and you just have one less airbag to go off because you changed the seat, but at least now the system functions as designed.
Tolerance STACK airbag proxy ready to install
For our proxy design we simply reverse engineered the connector and pin terminal mount and 3D printed a bed. This bed is now ready for the OEM Japan supplied terminals that match the Toyota terminals and add a resister in between the two terminals. This is then permanently bedded and protected inside the finished piece. We only use yellow so that any technician would understand that its a parts of the SRS system.
